Hello All of You Great People and Welcome to a new November 2020 Newsletter. Wherever you are on your financial journey I’m glad you are here with me- Steven Donovan aka Even Steven Money!
What’s been going on this month
November started out with a vacation and is ending with a nice long holiday weekend. I am truly grateful for both.
For our vacation we kept it Florida local and visited a natural spring just a few hours away. Our backyard for an entire week was a crystal clear flowing river.
My wife would wake up every morning like a kid on Christmas and exclaim “It’s river time” which meant coffee, nature, wildlife, and for me a good book.
A week of relaxing with a heavy dose of the outdoors was just the right medicine for our mental health and happiness.
The rest of the month flashed before our eyes as we made it through until Thanksgiving with family, food, and a tournament style Pling Pong.
✍Writing On the Blog✍
Millennial Investor Survey with Vanguard
I came across an investor survey on Vanguard and thought what a great topic to dive into and see how everyone has reacted during the pandemic, especially the millennial investor which I am part of apparently. It’s an inside look into what the younger generation thinks and does with retirement, investing, and personal finance.
My Top 5 Vanguard Index Funds
I am a firm believer in investing in the stock market. For me that means investing in low cost index funds through Vanguard. I go over my top 5 holdings that I have in Vanguard based on my investment portfolio. Some might surprise you a little.
I am focusing on a new project. It’s called Reach Your Financial Goals in 1 year.
Imagine saving enough money for a new home. Saving for a big vacation with your family. I’m creating a financial coaching program for just that.
Whatever your financial goals are this year, we will reach them together. I have more coming soon, but if you are interested and want to hear more click on this link and I’ll add you to the upcoming list for more information.
I received a 5 star 🤩 review this month, which I couldn’t be more thankful for. Check out the review from Chuck T. below:
🧛What I Sucked at This Month🧛
Many of the things I do especially in my business come in droves. There are times I’m eager to write every day of the week and then there is a month like November where writing one or two articles is a challenge.
I’ll look to get writing more in the coming weeks and improve in December.
What's New
🆓Coaching Client Guidance
We have 30+ days till the end of 2020 as I countdown from the 100 days I talked about last month.
With 1 month or 4 weeks remaining in the year I challenge you to update and create new goals for the last remaining days of 2020.
Maybe you created goals from the original 100 days?! If so now is the time to finish strong and complete your goals. Ask yourself a few questions:
It’s been a difficult year for many people as the amount of change in our lives has been above and beyond what I’m sure many of us expected.
However finishing 2020 on a high note can certainly lead to better things in the new year. Let me know if I can be of any help.
📈Stock Market📈
As we look ahead Covid cases are on the rise, but a potential vaccine is closer. Similar to our presidency, a change is coming soon.
Everything that I have read and heard about the change in presidency mostly revolves around the fact that it will be difficult for any major bills to be passed and would mean more of a status quo than any large changes for corporations as it relates to the stock market.
This apparently gave the stock market a vote of confidence along with positive vaccine results and the stock market as a whole has risen in the month of November.
It’s interesting to read but I don’t make my decisions based on a single month or even just a couple of years. I’m looking at big long chunks of time, like 20 and 30 years worth. My investments and my investment philosophy are geared towards the long term.
As far as the short term and individual stocks I am curious to see how a potential for a lock down or at least more restrictions in place will affect the stay at home stocks like Netflix, Zoom, etc.
I would anticipate another short term boom from some of the same stocks that have done so well during the pandemic. We shall see.
My suggestion is to invest and repeat, although this is the same thing I say every month. However if you are interested in individual stock investing I suggest trying a brokerage called Webull as if you are reading this on November 30th you can get 4 free stocks!
Just remember I’m just some guy on the internet and you should do your own research and consult a finanial professional.
🎧Here’s what I listened to:
📙Book listening this month:
One of my favorite books I have read in 2020 is The Psychology of Money by Morgan Housel. He does a great job of diving into more of the behavior and psychology of money. I love a good story along with a personal finance book so I really enjoyed this one. I encourage everyone to give it a read.
📺What I’m watching this month:
My wife and I have held off on watching this popular Netflix historical drama about the Queen of England and the royal family up until just recently.
Not surprisingly my wife is hooked and I find it quite enjoyable myself as I realize just how little I know and understand about the workings of the royal family.
December and the holidays are always a little tricky as it’s very easy to get off track. This month I will look to stay on track as I will be working on my Reach Your Financial Goals project, but also enjoying the holidays with my wife and our family.
🏋Health and Fitness🏋
With vacations, holidays, and the rise of Covid cases health and fitness have been put on maintenance mode rather than growth and gains towards my goals.
Recently I have found myself gravitating towards my garage gym, biking, and getting outside more than the traditional Crossfit style workouts with a group at the gym.
I’ll do my best to continue my efforts and maintenance in the month of December. Show up and repeat will be the motto this month.
Until next month and the end of the new year my friends!
